Longs Peak, Colorado
Longs Peak is a 14,255-foot mountain in the Front Range of Colorado, United States. It is considered one of Colorado’s most prominent fourteeners and is visible from Longmont, Boulder and Fort Collins. The mountain was named after explorer Stephen H. Long who explored the area in 1820.
The East face of Longs Peak is a popular climbing route with technical difficulties similar to those on the north side but more sustained and exposed; it’s also climbed via a very long approach on an easy trail from Estes Park below Loveland Pass at an elevation of about 9600 feet above sea level.
The standard route involves hiking up the trail for about 1 mile to Chasm Lake where climbers leave their packs before heading off on foot towards Mount Meeker (12,911 ft) or South face routes that lead up onto either ridge before reaching The Narrows or summit respectively (both are approximately 2 miles away).
Longs Peak can be summited year round although summer months are often windy due to its exposure during storms coming from three sides: north/northwest winds come from Wyoming through Grand Valley; east/northeast winds come from Nebraska through Kansas; southwesterly winds come from New Mexico through Colorado Springs which means moisture drips down into your tent!
